The Full Story
For 12 years I worked in a box.
It may sound like a dull and claustrophobic place, but it was actually a spacious box with lots of beauty inside. On one side there were skilled and caring co-workers, supportive managers, and a host of wonderful families I was blessed to know. Another was filled with fancy, expensive therapy equipment. And to top it off, I could rely on others to clean the unknown goo from toys and to solve the puzzle of making patient and therapist’s schedules work for appointments!
But as the years went on, I began noticing the walls of the box more and more.
They did make for stable surroundings, but I kept bumping into them.
My client needed more therapy,
but the wall of their insurance company did not agree and refused to pay.
An hour-long session would be helpful for this patient,
but the wall of my schedule only allowed for thirty minutes.
I wanted to spend more time with this parent discussing strategies to help their child,
but the wall (or mountain) of paperwork was calling.
Gradually, my resigned answer of “It’s just the way things are.” transformed into "But does it have to be?" and in 2025, the scale tipped.
The safety of those walls was no longer worth their limitations.
The following year, Brainchild Occupational Therapy was born.
My name is Aubrey Goza and I love being an OT. My job is to provide my clients with skilled, hands-on treatment in their environment, and to help families create practical strategies and routines to help their loved one succeed -- all with a healthy dose of encouragement.
By God's grace, I'm jumping into this wide-open space and trusting that many of you will join me and feel the breeze for yourself.
